Process Optimisation Engineer

Astutes Power Team are working exclusively with Marchwood Power Limited who own & operate the Marchwood Gas Fired Power Station in Southampton. This plant is able to produce 900MW of Power in a Combined Cycle configuration.

We are recruiting a brand-new position, Process Optimisation Engineer / Performance Engineer who will be responsible for identify and optimising the technical processes on the asset. You'll be working on the monitoring and reporting of the asset which includes two Siemens SGT5-4000F (SP7) gas turbines and a Siemens SST5-5000 Steam Turbine and all auxiliary plant.

Responsibilities and duties:
Reporting to the Operations & Maintenance Lead, typical duties will include:
Acting as project lead in process engineering, HAZID, HAZOP & root cause analysis studies and projects.
The development of technical & functional specifications including feasibility studies.
Advising on Safety Critical Device Management across all disciplines.
Monitoring plant performance and trends to maximise plant efficiency and availability.
Identifying trends and creating a performance model to track site efficiencies, providing reports on findings to identify areas of improvement.
Provide guidance to the Operation / Production teams to optimise thermal performance.
Generate a variety of reports of expected benefits including capacity, heat rate and production cost improvements.
Supporting the Engineering team in the preparation and execution of outages.
Support other sites as and when required.
Ensure HSE policies & compliance are followed at all times.
Liaise with third party stakeholders including external parties.
Carry out all actions in line with company and statutory health and safety legislation.

Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
A relevant engineering qualification, ideally at BEng (Degree) or equivalent
IOSH or NEBOSH
Ideally apprentice trained in a technical / engineering recognised scheme

Personal skills
The Performance Engineer role would suit someone who has:
Extensive experience in a CCGT / Thermal Power Station - other power generating assets would be acceptable alongside extensive Performance Engineering experience
Background in plant performance / efficiency with an understanding of Thermodynamics would be advantageous
Understanding of Process Safety and ALARP strategy would be advantageous.
Familiarity with The Grid Code, environmental permit conditions and relevant legislative / licensing matters.
