Role: Principal System Engineer - Inverter Systems

Hybrid model: 3 days on site in Buckinghamshire & 2 days remote

Salary: Up to £75,000 + Bonus + Benefits

Location: Buckinghamshire

We are currently recruiting for one of our customers in Buckinghamshire who specialise in motor design, and inverter hardware and software design for the automotive industry.

We're looking for a Principal Systems Engineer to lead and develop electric machine inverter systems and hybrid vehicle application projects.

As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will participate in and drive activities such as requirement specification, requirements management, system architecture design, software architecture design, implementation, Test planning, test and integration.

Key responsibilities:

Develop and manage requirements for inverter systems
Drive and develop requirements management toolchain and support and develop systems and software process workflow
Manage all V-cycle systems engineering activities - be the champion for systems engineering process and drive process management and improvements across the company
Support SW team with development of control software for electric machine inverter systems and hybrid vehicle applications
Support development of testing and validation plans for inverter systems
Support system architecture design with model based tools (e.g. SysML)
Drive ISO26262 functional safety activities for system, software and hardware
Support system analysis activities such as FMEA, FTA, HAZOP
Develop safety relevant requirements and software according to Automotive standards e.g. ISO26262
Develop work products and requirements for conformance to ISO21434 Cyber Security Standard
Drive awareness of cyber security within the business and ensure ISO21434 adherence goes beyond HW/SW team and is captured business wide.
Support SW team to develop, test, validate and verify high level control algorithms in MATLAB & Simulink (eg: Motor control, FOC, battery voltage, engine cranking, Filtering, Fault handling, etc.)
Support plant model development and test-harness creation
Interfacing and supporting other teams & customers with Controls & Software topics
Customer support for complex simulations including Travel to customer test facilities
Support and mentor more junior team members in order to facilitate their professional development
Participating / contributing to design reviews of software projects and product design
Managing / coordinating engineering changes and maintain detailed design records
Issue tracking & resolution using industry standard tools (e.g. JIRA)
Support hardware commissioning, motor dyno testing and data analysis tasks for fault finding
