Summary:

Are you an experienced Principal Surveyor looking for a temporary contract in the Housing industry? Our client, a reputable organisation in the London Borough Council, is seeking a Principal Surveyor to join their team and lead a specialist team of surveyors and support staff. This exciting opportunity will allow you to be responsible for all technical aspects of repair, maintenance, improvement, and re-servicing of council-owned properties. - Contract Length: 3 months with possibility to be extended

Overall Purpose of Job:

As a Principal Surveyor, you will be responsible for leading a professional housing surveying service, managing all technical aspects of property repair, maintenance, and improvement. You will ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures while providing an effective responsive repair and planned maintenance service.

Key Tasks and Accountabilities:

Take on the role of the Disrepair & Special Projects Manager in their absence.
Monitor and review current services across Housing Property Services, implement improvements, and set standards for continuous service improvement.
Provide efficient technical support for Housing Property Services, including expertise in disrepair, insurance claims, and customer care.
Develop collaborative working relationships with contractors, partners, and stakeholders to ensure projects meet objectives and deliver best value.
Conduct Health & Safety inspections, evaluate findings, and oversee necessary works.
Manage disrepair and legal casework, liaising with legal representatives and representing the organisation in litigation.
Chair project team meetings, monitor project progress, and respond to queries from residents, members, and other parties.
Supervise works to ensure compliance with specifications, procedures, and regulations.
Procure consultancy services and act as the client for technical consultants.
Prepare project programmes, reports, feasibility studies, and tenders.
Attend meetings, report to senior managers, and represent the organisation on housing-related matters.
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety responsibilities under CDM and other H&S legislation.
Consult and liaise with tenants, housing management staff, consultants, and stakeholders throughout project stages.
Investigate and resolve complaints, disputes, and technical matters.
Prepare reports and attend meetings, including outside normal working hours.

Person Specification:

Knowledge:

Strong numeracy and verbal skills.
Knowledge of Building Regulations, Health & Safety legislation, disrepair legislation, HHSRS legislation, and Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.Qualifications:

Formal training in building technology/construction, repairs, estimating, or contractual matters at degree, HND, or HNC level.Experience:

Considerable experience in building inspection, fault identification, and report/specification preparation.
Supervisory experience in building works.
Experience in dealing with disrepair matters.
Strong track record of successfully managing contracts/projects.
Staff management experience.Skills and Abilities:

Good IT skills.
Ability to write clear and accurate contract documentation.
Capability to access awkward places, climb ladders, and scaffolding.
Strong report writing skills.
Ability to work to targets.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with various stakeholders.
Effective budget management skills.Personal Style and Behaviour:

Team player with excellent communication skills.
Ability to engage with a diverse customer base.
Skill in presenting and communicating complex technical issues.
