Location: London (Hybrid)
Contract: 3 months initially
Rate: £575–£725 per day DOE
Working Pattern: 3 days on-site / in the borough, 2 days remote

The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced Principal / Senior Building Control Surveyor (Registered Building Inspector) for an interim opportunity within a London Local Authority.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified RBI to take on a varied and technically interesting caseload, covering residential, commercial, regeneration and public-sector developments.
You will play a key role in ensuring building safety, regulatory compliance and high standards of construction, while working alongside a knowledgeable Building Control team. The position offers considerable autonomy, technical responsibility and the opportunity to contribute to service development and support the professional growth of colleagues.
The Role
You will manage a diverse caseload of Building Control applications and inspections, providing technical advice and ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation.
Responsibilities will include:
* Assessing Building Regulation applications, plans and technical submissions.
* Undertaking site inspections across a variety of building types.
* Managing projects in line with your RBI registration class and competency.
* Ensuring compliance with Building Regulations, the Building Act and Building Safety legislation.
* Providing practical technical advice to developers, architects, contractors and consultants.
* Supporting statutory Building Control functions and Building Safety Regulator requirements.
* Acting as a senior technical resource and supporting junior surveyors, trainees and apprentices.
* Building effective relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders.
* Contributing to service improvement, modernisation and professional development initiatives.
About You
To be considered, you will have:
* Current Registered Building Inspector status, with a minimum registration level of Class 2A, 2B or 2D.
* Strong technical knowledge of Building Regulations, the Building Act and associated legislation.
* Significant experience in plan checking, Building Regulation assessments and site inspections.
* The ability to manage a varied caseload independently and make sound technical decisions.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* A customer-focused approach and commitment to maintaining professional competence.
Desirable experience:
* RBI Class 2E or 2F registration.
* Chartered membership of CABE, CIOB, RICS or an equivalent professional body.
* Local Authority Building Control experience.
* Experience with higher-risk buildings, complex developments or modern methods of construction.
* Experience mentoring or developing junior surveyors.
Working Arrangements
This is a hybrid position, with approximately three days per week spent within the borough undertaking site inspections and/or office attendance. The remaining time can be worked remotely where appropriate, allowing flexibility for plan checking, report writing and administrative duties.
Rates
Daily rates are dependent on RBI registration level, qualifications and relevant experience:
* Class 2A / 2B / 2D: Up to £575 per day.
* Class 2E / 2F: Up to £725 per day.
