Description:

We’re looking for a Principal / Lead Process Engineer to provide technical leadership across the development of fuel-processing systems, taking projects from initial concept through design, testing and commissioning.

The role

This is a senior, technically focused position for an experienced Process Engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering problems and seeing solutions through from initial concept to commissioning.

You will take technical ownership of process-engineering activities across H-Power’s ammonia-cracking and hydrogen technologies. This will include developing process concepts, completing and assuring engineering studies, guiding design decisions and supporting the resolution of issues arising during testing and commissioning.

You will also provide technical direction and mentoring to two Process Engineers. Although the role includes leadership responsibilities, it is not principally a people-management position. H-Power is looking for someone who will remain close to the engineering detail and act as a trusted technical authority for the process function.

Key Responsibilities

Lead process design from concept through development, testing and commissioning.

Solve complex process-engineering problems across ammonia, hydrogen and fuel-cell programmes.

Produce and review PFDs, P&IDs, heat and mass balances, equipment specifications and control documentation.

Complete process calculations and simulations using Aspen Plus, HYSYS or similar software.

Support process equipment selection, supplier engagement and procurement.

Provide technical support during system integration, commissioning and troubleshooting.

Lead or contribute to HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA and wider process-safety activities.

Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Provide technical leadership and mentoring to Process Engineers.

Maintain high standards across process deliverables, configuration control and management of change.

Experience & Qualifications

Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a related discipline.

Strong industrial process-engineering experience, ideally involving gas-processing systems.

Experience taking process solutions from concept through to commissioning or operation.

Strong process-design, calculation and simulation capability.

Experience producing and reviewing core process-engineering deliverables.

Good process-safety knowledge, including HAZOP and relevant ATEX/DSEAR considerations.

Practical experience supporting testing, commissioning and troubleshooting.

Able to provide technical direction and work effectively across engineering disciplines.

Chartered status, or progress towards it, would be advantageous.

Willing to travel occasionally in the UK and internationally.

Benefits include: Bonus, private medical insurance, share options, pension contribution, 25 days’ holiday + bank holidays, life assurance, and flexible working.
