Fantastic Opportunity to join Public Health Scotland Public Health Scotland is a new organisation between the Scottish Government and Local Government, working in partnership, to provide leadership to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland. Public Health Scotland launched on 1st April 2020 with the formal status of a National Special Health Board employing around 1100 people. Public Health Scotland provides authoritative information and services to support people and communities across Scotland. It leads the national response to unforeseen health emergencies and contributes to national and local government policy through its provision of robust data and intelligence. NHS Health Scotland, Health Protection Scotland and Information Services Division, of NHS National Services Scotland, became part of the new public Health Body known as Public Health Scotland. Public Health Scotland includes all of the functions previously provided by these bodies. • NHS Health Scotland was the national health improvement body which worked with others in the public, private and third sectors to reduce health inequalities and improve health and wellbeing. It was involved both in developing and disseminating evidence and in shaping policy and programmes to help achieve a fairer, healthier Scotland. • NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) provides a number of support services to the NHS and other bodies in Scotland. • Health Protection Scotland (HPS) delivered specialist national services, providing advice, support and information to professionals and the public to protect people from infectious and environmental hazards. • Information Services Division (ISD) was responsible for providing a range of statistical information and analyses, and was an authoritative source of Scottish national healthcare statistics. As an experienced healthcare, and more recently social care, partner; ISD was uniquely positioned to provide support in information design, development and application to enhance decisions about healthcare and ultimately improve Scotland’s health. HPS and ISD were both part of the Public Health and Intelligence Strategic Business Unit within NSS. By joining Public Health Scotland as one of our Principal Information Development Managers you will: • Lead multiple project teams and initiate and/or manage specific projects to deliver key information development projects designed to contribute to Public Health Scotland’s strategic priorities • Champion opportunities for innovative ways to collect data and present information and intelligence • Keep abreast, through effective communication with stakeholders in NHS Boards, Scottish Government and partner organisations, of policy developments which impact on the delivery of the Service Area’s objectives. • Work with clinicians, other health professionals, partner organisations, research bodies and universities to design, scope, analyse and interpret information for specific research projects and audits, negotiating costs with customers as required. • Provide specialist advice to external customers on the appropriate interpretation and use of health service statistics to improve decision-making, and promote services of PHS by participating in presentations, workshops and seminars.
