Our client is specialist in the design, development and integration of power units for large marine and industrial applications utilising alternative fuel sources to include hydrogen and ammonia. As part of their growth plans, they are now seeking a Principal Engineer to support the development of their new and current product ranges.

As a Principal Engineer you will own the technical development of one or more of their products being responsible for all technical aspects of the product, including but not limited to mechanical design, electrical design, system performance (diesel displacement), compliance to all legal requirements.

The Principal Engineer will be charged with:

Obtaining an expert level understanding of all technical applications with reference to design and legislation of your product.
Be responsible for the audit and quality of the designer and support engineer's work.
Team leadership communicating, motivating and developing your team member to ensure that you and the team develop technical knowledge and skills, which stay up-to-date with industry and certification standards.
Project delivery from concept through to completion following all steps of the gateway process.
Perform technical investigations of field problems, and provide technical solutions, conducting project reviews to ensure continuous learning and improvement are built into next generation processes and products.
Co-ordinating team members and utilise own engineering skills and tools to meet product requirements, program delivery and business objectives.
Managing project budget and product cost
Ensuring compliance and lead safety analysis including FMEA and HAZOP.
To apply for this position the Principal Engineer should have:

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or a related field of study, or an equivalent by experience
Experience in any of the following is preferred and highly valued:

Shipbuilding
Marine Classification
Hydrogen and/or fuel cells
Oil and Gas, CNB, LNG, etc.

A strong technical knowledge and engineering skills, with proven ability to deliver against time, cost and quality targets
Ability to communicate project status, technical information, and risks to the Chief Engineer and stakeholders
Ability to understand engineering product development for industrial/heavy duty applications with exceptional ownership of technical content
Previous experience in gateway processes and reporting
Computer and software systems skills such as MS Project, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
