Principal Electrical Design Engineer – Building Services
Manchester | Hybrid | Permanent | £70,000 + benefits
A leading pan-European, Tier 1 engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to support a growing portfolio of complex building services projects across Ministry of Defence (MoD), Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and pharmaceutical sectors.
You will lead electrical design delivery within multidisciplinary teams, developing safe, resilient and practical solutions for highly regulated environments. The role offers involvement throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept design through detailed design, construction and site monitoring.
The role
* Lead electrical building services design, producing and reviewing calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
* Coordinate with clients, multidisciplinary designers and construction teams to deliver against project briefs, budgets and programmes.
* Undertake site surveys and support construction delivery, ensuring technical quality, compliance and buildability.
* Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers and contribute to design assurance.
* Manage project risks and commercial considerations, applying relevant standards and CDM requirements.
Your experience
* 8–10 years’ electrical design experience within building services (as a minimum), with the capability to lead complex projects.
* Experience in regulated sectors, ideally defence, MoJ or pharmaceuticals.
* Strong technical design, specification writing and independent checking skills.
* Experience working within integrated multidisciplinary teams and BIM delivery environments.
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Navisworks, NBS and Amtech/Trimble; familiarity with Electrical OM would be advantageous.
* Ideally Chartered with CIBSE or the IET, or working towards chartership.
* Able to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance.
