Description:
Belmont Recruitment are recruiting for a Principal Ecologist working with West Berkshire Council on a 3 to 6 month contract with the view to extend. The role is to protect and enhance the District’s natural environment through the provision of specialist technical support and advice to the Development and Regulation Service on ecology matters, including on Biodiversity Net Gain and Nutrient Neutrality.
Responsibilities:
* Provide comments, recommendations and advice on development proposals which may affect ecology/biodiversity including pre-application enquiries, planning applications and discharge of conditions.
* Provide ecology input into policy formulation including the preparation of development plan documents, planning briefs and supplementary planning documents
* Undertake other planning work including input into appeals, written representations, informal hearings, public inquiries, and consultations where ecology input is required.
* Advise as appropriate on impacts to designated sites, protected habitats and species and interpretation of nutrient neutrality/water quality matters and relevant specialist reports.
* Production of Habitats Regulations Assessments where required.
* To advise upon implementation of and ensure compliance with relevant policy and legislation including the Wildlife & Countryside Act, Environment Act, Habitat Regulations.
Essential: Degree in Ecology
Location: Newbury (3 days from home)
Hourly rate: £40 to £45
