About The Role
Morrison Energy Services is currently looking to recruit a Civil Site Manager/Principal Contractor representative to work on our National Grid Contracts in England & Wales on behalf of our Electricity Transmission division.
As a PC Site Manager you will be a part of our Electricity Transmission construction team who deliver National Grid and private generation company’s 66kV to 400kV projects which involves, refurbishing existing and building new substations including associated OHL works and HV cabling. Reporting to a Construction Manager you’ll coordinate and supervise construction activities on site from commencement through to final commissioning and completion whist acting as the principal site contact for the client.
MES Electricity Transmission are proud to be a key contractor to National Grid, delivering substation new builds, HV asset replacements, bay refurbishment works, protection upgrades/replacements across the UK including engineering design, project management, HV procurement, HV cable installation, some overhead line (OHL) works, civil construction, commissioning, decommissioning and demolition.
As a Civil Site Manager/Principal Contractor’s representative your duties & responsibilities will be:

Day to day management of site operatives, subcontractors and site work.
Development and implementation of Safety documentation including Construction Phase plans, Site Quality plans and, Risk Assessments / Method Statements.
Undertake inspections in line with accepted Inspection Test Plan’s (ITPs) and Inspection Check Lists (ITCs).
Management/supervision of all associated project Temporary Works.
Sensible Monitoring performance of site operatives and subcontractors with respect to Health and Safety, Quality and Environment.
Leading weekly Safety inspection/walk.
Review civil design for constructability & liaise with civil design department regards alternate design, installation methodologies, materials etc and raise TQs where necessary.
Identify training requirements for site personnel.
Ensure full compliance with all Morrison & National Grid procedures, not with standing current legislation.
Client liaison whilst on site including client audits.
Chairing weekly co-ordination meetings.
Procurement of materials using computer based system.
Reduce all construction associated costs where applicable (off hire of unrequired plant, reduction in wastage of materials, maximise production etc).
Planning and programming of current and future works i.e. rolling programmes and liaising/reporting on a weekly basis with project planner/programmer.
Notify Construction/Project manager of possible variations/early warnings and keep suitable contemporary records (detailed daily diary).
Compilation of all necessary documentation and As Built drawings for handover files.Essential Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

An extensive knowledge of construction methodologies within the Electricity Transmission industry
Competency to work in Substations 66kV to 400kV inclusive
Knowledge of NEC contracts
Knowledge of current legislation relating to Health, Safety and Environment
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to work within budget and to programme timescales
Ability to work within a team environment including clients, designers, H&S Advisers, site staff, quantity surveyor and estimators.
IT literate, specifically in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
Full driving licence.
Must be prepared to travel and work away at customer sites
Qualified to a suitable level in Construction, Mechanical Engineering or an Electrical Engineering discipline.
Previously or current authorisation to National Grid TP 137.11 What’s in it for you?
