Description:

My client is a specialist consultancy in the energy sector. They help clients respond to the complex challenges of integrating low-carbon technology into everyday lives. Their technical prowess combines power systems analysis, renewables design and integration solutions, and environmental services.

They have an enviable reputation in the power systems sector and have an abundance of technical expertise across design, planning, modelling and analysis of electrical networks. Changes in the energy system – including decarbonisation of heating and transport and decentralisation of energy resources – are presenting a range of exciting challenges for the industry, and as such the Connections team who work with clients primarily in the areas of power system analysis and grid connection studies, including: load flow; fault level; dynamic G99/Grid Code compliance studies such as fault ride through, voltage control, and frequency response; power quality assessments including G5/5, P28 and P29; and insulation co-ordination studies is looking to recruit a highly capable and motivated Principal Consultant with an eye for detail to support and inspire the team.

In addition to excellent leadership qualities, you will be able to demonstrate a proven ability to understand client requirements and provide innovative yet pragmatic and cost-effective solutions.

Responsibilities:

 Perform and manage grid connection studies for a range of clients.

 Work with the Team Manager to:

facilitate effective management and growth of the team and workload.

manage resources and co-ordination of the team to ensure efficient delivery of projects and use of consultant time.

identify skills gaps, training needs, and recruitment needs to meet business plan targets, client needs, and overall company strategy.

 Work with the Connections Team Manager and Director on proposal activity and provide timely and efficient responses to enquiries and opportunities.

 Perform consultant and Project Manager roles as required to deliver projects efficiently.

 Ensure quality assurance of all team deliverables, including proposals and project reports.

 Maintain client relationships and support the team to develop these relationships with their clients.

 Develop and maintain client relationships and manage partnerships with other consultancies and industry bodies.

 Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and other legislative and company requirements.

 Work with all consultants in the team to ensure that lessons learnt are communicated and team skills are developed.

 Work with the Connections Team Manager and the Resource & Operations Director to ensure that the team continually improve systems in relation to quality, health & safety and the environment.

Essential requirements:

 Demonstrable experience of providing power system consultancy services for renewable generation developers.

 Extensive, detailed knowledge of power system analysis and direct involvement and delivery of detailed power systems studies in software packages, such as PowerFactory, PSS/E, IPSA, ETAP, PSCAD, EMTP-ATP.

 Extensive experience of performing dynamic grid connection studies to meet the requirements of Engineering Recommendation G99 and international Grid Codes.

 Extensive experience of performing power quality assessment studies, including Engineering Recommendation G5/5, P28, and P29.

 Excellent written and verbal communications with both technical and non-technical personnel. Desirable requirements:

 Post-graduate degree in electrical engineering.

 Bespoke dynamic model development in PowerFactory and PSS/E for inverter-connected generation as well as conventional AVR and governor modelling.

 Capability in DPL, Python, or other modelling languages.

 Experience in performing insulation co-ordination studies.

 Working knowledge of power system protection settings and co-ordination.

 Detailed cable thermal rating calculations.

 Transformer design and rating calculations.

 System losses calculations.

 Cost/benefit analysis.

 Earthing study design utilising CDEGs.

 Ability and willingness to travel independently within the UK and occasionally overseas to industrial sites
