Teaching a Year 2 class
Planning and delivering engaging lessons across the primary curriculum
Supporting pupils’ academic, social and emotional development
Working closely with the wider school team
Year 2 Primary Teacher - Key Responsibilities
As a Year 2 Primary Teacher, you will:
Plan and deliver engaging, creative and well-structured lessons for a Year 2 class.
Deliver the full primary curriculum, adapting teaching to meet individual learning needs.
Create a positive, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment.
Support pupils to make strong academic progress and achieve their full potential.
Assess and monitor pupil progress, adapting teaching where appropriate.
Differentiate learning activities to support pupils of all abilities.
Promote positive behaviour and high expectations throughout the classroom.
Develop positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
Support pupils’ social and emotional development.
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and the wider school team.
Contribute to planning, assessment and school-wide activities where required.
Year 2 Primary Teacher - About You
The successful Year 2 Primary Teacher will have:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) — desirable/essential depending on experience.
Previous experience teaching within a primary school.
Experience teaching Key Stage 1, particularly Year 2 — desirable.
Strong knowledge of the primary curriculum.
A creative and engaging approach to teaching and learning.
Excellent classroom management skills.
Ability to differentiate and adapt teaching to meet individual needs.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
A positive, nurturing and inclusive approach.
Ability to build strong relationships with pupils and colleagues.
A proactive and flexible approach to school life.
A genuine passion for helping children learn, develop and achieve their potential.
