Job Title: Teaching Assistant SEND support

Location: Mainstream Primary Schools across Dudley and Sandwell

Job Type: Full-time/part-time and day to day

Job Overview: As a Teaching Assistant specializing in supporting students with autism within a mainstream primary school setting, your role will be pivotal in facilitating the academic, social, and emotional growth of the student under your care. You will work closely with the classroom teacher, parents/guardians, and other school staff to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment tailored to the specific needs of the student.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide personalized support to the student with autism, implementing strategies outlined in their EHCP to promote their academic progress and overall development.

- Assist the student in integrating into classroom activities and routines, ensuring they have access to the curriculum and are able to participate meaningfully alongside their peers.

- Have proactive strategies to manage challenging behaviors and promote positive social interactions within the school environment, utilizing techniques such as visual schedules, social stories, and sensory supports

- Recognize and respond to the sensory needs of the student, creating a sensory-friendly environment that minimizes distractions and supports their ability to focus and engage in learning activities.

- Foster effective communication between the student, teachers, and other support staff, utilizing both verbal and non-verbal communication methods to facilitate understanding.

- Regularly assess the student's progress and development, recording observations and collecting data to inform ongoing interventions and adjustments to support strategies.

- Collaborate with the classroom teacher and other school staff to ensure consistency in support strategies and promote the student's inclusion in all aspects of school life.

- Maintain open and proactive communication with the student's parents/guardians, providing updates on progress, sharing strategies for supporting learning at home, and soliciting feedback to inform the student's educational plan.

- Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills in supporting students with autism, staying abreast of best practices and evidence-based interventions.

Qualifications and Skills:

Experience working with students with autism or other special educational needs, preferably within a school setting.
Knowledge of autism spectrum disorders and familiarity with evidence-based strategies for supporting individuals with autism.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents/guardians, and external professionals.
Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards supporting the unique needs of each student.
Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the changing needs of the student and the school environment.
Pay  

Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this role is experience working with children that we are able to reference.
