About the Role

Connex Education is working with a primary school in Normanton, seeking  HLTA's for day-to-day cover work.

A Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) takes on a more specialised and advanced role compared to regular teaching assistants.

Your role can vary depending on the school, but generally, HLTA responsibilities include:

Leading Learning Activities: HLTA's often lead small group instruction, interventions, or whole-class activities under the guidance of the classroom teacher. They may plan and deliver lessons, adapting teaching strategies to meet the needs of individual students or groups.

Curriculum Support: They assist in the planning, preparation, and delivery of curriculum content, working closely with teachers to ensure that lessons are engaging, effective, and aligned with learning objectives.

Assessment and Progress Tracking: HLTA's may be involved in assessing student progress, grading assignments, and providing feedback to both students and teachers. They may also help track student data and maintain records of academic performance.

Specialist Support: HLTA's often have expertise in specific subjects, areas of learning, or special educational needs. They may provide specialized support to students with learning difficulties, disabilities, or English as a second language (ESL) needs.

Classroom Management: They support the teacher in managing classroom behavior, implementing behavior management strategies, and promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Professional Development: HLTA's may participate in professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge, staying updated on best practices in education and learning new instructional techniques.

Team Collaboration: They collaborate with teachers, other support staff, and external professionals to support student learning and well-being. This includes attending meetings, sharing insights, and contributing to collaborative planning efforts.

Cover Supervisor: In some cases, HLTA's may also act as cover supervisors, overseeing classes in the absence of the regular teacher and ensuring that learning continues smoothly.

Overall, HLTA's play a crucial role in supporting teaching and learning in schools, providing valuable assistance to teachers, and contributing to the academic success and well-being of students.
