Are you a patient, compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with a strong background supporting children and young people with PMLD and complex needs?

We are recruiting for a PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in the Guildford GU5 area, supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties and a range of additional needs.

This role would suit someone who is passionate about specialist education and understands the importance of providing personalised, nurturing and consistent support.

The Role

As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will:

Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with PMLD and complex needs.

Support pupils inside and outside the classroom.

Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.

Support communication, sensory development, physical development and emotional wellbeing.

Assist with personalised learning programmes and individual targets.

Use appropriate sensory, communication and therapeutic approaches.

Support pupils with PMLD, SLD, Autism, physical disabilities and complex learning needs.

Encourage independence, communication and functional life skills.

Support personal care and mobility needs where required, following appropriate training.

Follow individual EHCP, care and support plans.

Work closely with teachers, therapists, SENCOs and other professionals.

Monitor pupil progress, engagement and wellbeing.

Help maintain a calm, safe and stimulating learning environment.

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

Strong experience supporting pupils with PMLD or complex needs.

Experience within SEN schools, specialist provisions, residential care or similar settings.

Understanding of sensory needs, communication difficulties and personalised support.

Confidence supporting pupils with personal care and physical needs.

A calm, patient and highly adaptable approach.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.

The ability to follow individual support and care plans.

Valid Child and Adult DBS essential.

Experience with Makaton, PECS, AAC, sensory approaches, moving and handling or other specialist support strategies would be beneficial.

A formal teaching qualification is not essential. If you have strong hands-on experience supporting pupils with PMLD or complex needs, we'd like to hear from you.
