About the Opportunity

Carmichael UK is recruiting for an experienced Plant Inspector to join a major infrastructure project in Essex. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a high-performing plant team responsible for ensuring all heavy plant, equipment and vehicles are maintained to the highest standards of safety, compliance and operational readiness.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will play a key role in inspecting, monitoring and maintaining a diverse fleet of earthmoving plant and site vehicles, supporting safe and efficient project delivery on one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDIs) on earthworks plant and equipment.

Complete on-hire and off-hire inspections, recording machine hours, photographs and existing damage.

Assess tyre condition, Ground Engaging Tools (GET) wear and undercarriage condition.

Carry out inspections of site vehicles including 4x4s, minibuses and commercial vehicles.

Apply and maintain plant identification systems and asset stickers.

Inspect safety-critical equipment including:

Flashing beacons

Reversing alarms

All-round vision camera systems

Dash cameras

Check and replenish lubricants, grease pots and fluid levels.

Grease plant and carry out routine preventative maintenance activities.

Complete regular condition monitoring and weekly inspections.

Assist in diagnosing plant defects and report findings to the Plant Team.

Produce and maintain risk assessments and safe systems of work.

Manage stock levels for oils, lubricants and maintenance consumables.

Maintain COSHH storage areas and workshop standards.

Support OEM engineers and service providers during maintenance activities.

Undertake basic maintenance tasks including:

Filter changes

Bulb replacements

Minor repairs

Replace GET and cutting edges where required.

Issue Maintenance Permits to Work to authorised personnel and contractors.

Promote a positive safety culture and ensure compliance with project standards and procedures.

Essential Requirements

CSCS Green Card.

CSCS Blue Skilled Worker Card.

Full UK Driving Licence.

NVQ Level 2 in Plant Maintenance or equivalent.

Experience maintaining and inspecting heavy plant machinery.

Good understanding of health, safety and compliance requirements.

Ability to write risk assessments and follow safe systems of work.

Basic IT and computer literacy.

Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety standards.

Desirable Requirements

CPCS A68 Plant Mover Card.

Welding qualification or practical welding experience.

Working knowledge of Caterpillar, Volvo and Bomag plant equipment.

Previous experience working on major infrastructure, construction or earthworks projects.

You will be a practical and safety-conscious individual with a strong background in heavy plant maintenance and inspection. Comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment, you will have a proactive approach to identifying issues, maintaining compliance and ensuring equipment is safe and ready for use at all times
