Description:
Our client is a leading provider of medical instrument reprocessing and maintenance services, delivering both on-site and off-site solutions to healthcare providers. To support the continued operation of their specialist sterile services facility, they are seeking a Plant & Boiler Engineer to join their team in Chessington.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer with a strong background in planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive fault finding, and plant equipment maintenance within a highly regulated environment.
The Role
As a Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all site equipment and building services. Working within a static site environment, you will carry out both scheduled and reactive maintenance activities to minimise downtime and support critical healthcare operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on all plant, machinery, and site services in accordance with the maintenance schedule.
* Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and perform fault diagnosis and repairs to minimise operational disruption.
* Maintain and repair specialist processing equipment including sterilisers, washers, and associated plant systems.
* Conduct routine inspections and testing to ensure equipment remains compliant with industry and healthcare standards.
* Perform weekly testing and maintenance activities on sterilisers and washer-disinfectors in line with current regulatory requirements.
* Ensure all equipment is fully serviced and operational ahead of validation, calibration, and audit activities.
* Coordinate and oversee external contractors and service engineers carrying out maintenance and repair work on site.
* Support the scheduling and completion of annual plant and equipment validations.
* Maintain accurate maintenance records, calibration documentation, and certification to support quality and compliance requirements.
* Monitor equipment performance, identify recurring issues, and recommend improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency.
* Manage spare parts inventory, ensuring critical components are available to support planned and reactive maintenance activities.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing equipment uptime, reducing failures, and improving operational performance.
* Participate in an on-call rotation to provide emergency maintenance support when required.
* Work closely with operational teams to ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and with minimal impact on production.
Ideal Candidate
* Proven experience carrying out both PPM and reactive maintenance within a manufacturing, pharmaceutical, healthcare, medical devices, cleanroom, or similar regulated environment.
* Strong fault-finding and diagnostic abilities on electrical and mechanical systems.
* Experience working with pumps, motors, control systems, process equipment, conveyors, steam systems, or pressure-related plant would be advantageous.
* Ability to work independently and manage maintenance priorities within a busy operational environment.
* Understanding of compliance, validation, and quality requirements within regulated industries is desirable.
* Flexible approach with willingness to participate in an on-call rota.
This role would suit an engineer who enjoys a hands-on maintenance environment, combining planned maintenance, reactive breakdown support, and continuous improvement responsibility within a critical healthcare services operation
