Planner

Manchester (Office) / Cumbria (site)

Circa £50,000 + package

Leading UK main contractor

Opportunity

Are you an Assistant Planner or developing Planner looking for genuine mentorship, structured training and the opportunity to take greater ownership of major construction projects?

This is an excellent opportunity to join an ambitious planning department within a leading UK main contractor. You will work closely with a highly regarded young Planning Manager who is committed to investing time in your development and helping you become a well-rounded construction Planner.

The initial focus will be two significant education schemes in Cumbria. Previous experience working on schools, Department for Education projects, steel-frame buildings or comparable construction schemes would be beneficial, but it is not essential. The hiring manager is more interested in your potential, attitude and honesty about your current skills than an exaggerated project history.

Responsibilities

As Planner, you will:

Develop, manage and regularly update construction programmes.

Support the planning of enabling works and main construction packages.

Work collaboratively with operational, commercial, design and project teams.

Monitor progress, identify programme risks and recommend practical solutions.

Assist with sequencing, logistics, reporting and short-term planning.

Communicate clear programme information to project stakeholders.

Attend the Cumbria projects when required by the delivery programme.

What’s in it for you

This Planner role provides the support many developing planners are promised but rarely receive. Following probation, you will have a structured training and development plan tailored to your experience, skills and long-term career ambitions.

Site attendance will be phased around the projects. Initially, you are likely to spend approximately two days per week in Cumbria while a major enabling package progresses and the second scheme prepares to start.

Once both schemes are fully operational, there may be periods when up to three days per week are required, depending entirely on project needs. This is not expected to be a permanent fixed arrangement. If delivery is progressing well, your week could involve one day on each site, with the remaining time split between the regional office and home working.

The essential requirement is that the successful Planner is committed to travelling to Cumbria whenever the projects need additional support.

You will join a talented, collaborative and growing team with considerable room for progression. As your experience develops, the intention is to move you onto projects closer to home and eventually larger city-centre schemes.

Application Process

If you’re ready to bring your experience in construction planning to a forward-thinking company, we want to hear from you. Apply today, and we will contact you within 3 working days if your application has been shortlisted.
