Software Developer (PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, Migration of legacy ColdFusion to PHP , UK Remote

**Location: Remote / UK Home Based**

Our client is seeking an experienced Software Developer with specialized skills in PHP, JavaScript, and MySQL, ready to take on the challenge of modernizing legacy systems.

**Role Overview:**

The Software Developer will be pivotal in leading the transition of applications from ColdFusion 9 to newer, more robust frameworks. This role demands a blend of strong technical skills and a proven background in software migration projects, particularly with ColdFusion.

**Key Responsibilities:**

- **Application Migration:** Spearhead the migration of existing applications from ColdFusion 9 to PHP, ensuring transitions are seamless and efficient.
- **Front-End Development:** Craft and refine front-end interfaces utilizing JavaScript, enhancing user interaction and visual appeal.
- **Database Management:** Design, test, and maintain robust databases with MySQL, optimizing data storage and retrieval.
- **Collaborative Development:** Work closely with the development team to design and launch new features, maintaining a steady pace of innovation.
- **Quality Assurance:** Uphold high standards of code quality, ensuring stability, scalability, and maintainability.
- **Troubleshooting:** Identify and resolve issues in existing software, and perform upgrades to improve functionality and performance.
- **Documentation:** Maintain detailed documentation of development processes and code changes to support transparency and future maintenance efforts.
- **Peer Collaboration:** Engage in code reviews and knowledge sharing to bolster team expertise and software quality.

**Qualifications:**

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in software development, with comprehensive skills in PHP, JavaScript, and MySQL.
- Demonstrated expertise in legacy system migrations, ideally with experience moving from ColdFusion to PHP.
- Thorough understanding of web application development and UI design principles.
- Proficient in writing clean, well-documented, and easily maintainable code.
- Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git.

**Preferred Skills:**

- Direct experience with ColdFusion
- Exposure to additional programming languages and frameworks like Python, Ruby, or Node.js.
- In-depth knowledge of database design best practices and web security measures.
- Previous involvement in the education technology sector is a plus.
