Description:

Your new company

A well-established professional services organisation is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager or strong Payroll supervisor / Assistant Manager to join their growing payroll function in Liverpool. Supporting a diverse portfolio of clients across a range of sectors, this business prides itself on delivering a high-quality, customer-focused payroll service while investing heavily in its people, technology and continued growth.

This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys leading teams while maintaining exceptional service standards. Hybrid work is available. You will be expected to work from their modern offices 2-3 days per week.

Your new role

As Payroll Manager, you will take responsibility for overseeing a portfolio of client payrolls while leading and developing a small team of payroll professionals. Working within a busy, multi-client environment, you will ensure payrolls are processed accurately, compliantly and to strict deadlines, whilst acting as a key escalation point for complex payroll queries and legislation matters.

You will play a pivotal role in driving service excellence, improving processes, managing client relationships and supporting the continued growth and success of the payroll function. This position requires a proactive leader who can balance operational delivery with team development and stakeholder engagement.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this position, you will have substantial end-to-end UK payroll experience, ideally gained within a payroll bureau, managed payroll service, accountancy practice, professional services environment or shared service centre where you have managed multiple payrolls simultaneously. You will possess a strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, including RTI, statutory payments, pensions and year-end processes, alongside proven experience leading or supervising a payroll team.

You will be highly organised, commercially aware and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where client service and accuracy are paramount. Strong communication skills, leadership capability and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential. A payroll qualification would be advantageous, as would experience managing high-volume or multi-frequency payrolls and driving continuous process improvements.
