The Opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced payroll professional to join a busy client payroll function, taking responsibility for a varied portfolio and delivering an accurate, responsive service.
This is a great next step for someone with a strong payroll bureau background who enjoys the technical side of payroll, dealing directly with clients and supporting less experienced members of the team.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Take ownership of a portfolio of client payrolls, ensuring each is delivered accurately and within agreed deadlines.
* Work across more complex payrolls and investigate technical queries as they arise.
* Review payroll information, calculations and outputs before submission to clients.
* Complete BACS processing and key payroll control checks.
* Keep up to date with changes to UK payroll legislation and apply these across client payrolls.
* Develop strong relationships with clients, becoming a trusted contact for their payroll requirements.
* Help coordinate workloads across the team during busy payroll periods.
* Provide guidance to junior colleagues and review their work where required.
* Maintain clear payroll procedures and client-specific process documentation.
* Assist with payroll system updates, testing and technical projects.
* Look for ways to streamline processes and improve the overall client experience.
What We’re Looking For
* Around 3–4 years’ UK payroll experience.
* Previous payroll bureau / outsourced payroll experience is essential.
* Good technical understanding of UK payroll legislation and compliance.
* Experience handling multiple client payrolls and competing deadlines.
* Comfortable investigating and resolving complex payroll queries.
* Strong client-facing communication skills.
* Experience supporting or reviewing the work of junior colleagues would be advantageous.
* Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach.
