Pastoral Support Assistant – Secondary SEMH School – Bury

Location: Bury

Pay Rate: £100–£120 per day DOE

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Full-time, long-term – with temp-to-perm opportunity

The Role

Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and make positive progress?

Cover People are recruiting a Pastoral Support Assistant for a specialist secondary school in Bury supporting young people with SEMH needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work in a setting with small group sizes, a practical vocational curriculum and a strong focus on intervention, rewards and enrichment.

You'll help pupils re-engage with education, build confidence and develop the skills they need for life beyond school.

The role also offers the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

What You'll Do

• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people with SEMH needs.

• Provide pastoral and emotional support throughout the school day.

• Support small groups and individual pupils with engagement and behaviour.

• Deliver or support targeted interventions and enrichment activities.

• Use positive behaviour strategies to encourage progress and participation.

• Help pupils develop confidence, resilience, independence and life skills.

• Support a practical, vocational approach to learning.

• Work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to meet individual needs.

What We're Looking For

• Experience supporting young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour or additional needs.

• Experience in education, youth work, mentoring, care or a similar setting.

• Calm, resilient and consistent when dealing with challenging situations.

• Confident building strong relationships with secondary-aged pupils.

• Positive, proactive and willing to get involved.

• Able to support interventions, activities and enrichment opportunities.

• A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and succeed.
