Description:

Are you an experienced Pastoral Support Officer, SEND Inclusion Specialist, or Pastoral Mentor committed to removing barriers to education for vulnerable teenagers?

A forward-thinking Secondary Academy in Blackpool is seeking a proactive, empathetic, and resilient Pastoral SEND Officer to join their student welfare and inclusion team starting from November 2026.

This role is on a temporary basis to start, remunerated fairly and transparently on the NJC Support Staff Scale. You will sit at the heart of the school's pastoral and SEND provision, working closely with the SENCo, Heads of Year, and Safeguarding leads to support students with complex social, emotional, mental health (SEMH), and additional educational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Act as a dedicated pastoral contact for secondary students with SEND, SEMH, and complex welfare needs.

Deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group pastoral interventions covering emotional regulation, anxiety management, attendance recovery, and conflict resolution.

Work collaboratively with class teachers and support staff to ensure EHCP provisions and individual learning plans are implemented effectively.

De-escalate challenging situations calmly using restorative, trauma-informed practices.

Maintain comprehensive pastoral records, liaise with parents/carers, and support multi-agency meetings (social care, CAMHS, local authority services).

Support internal inclusion and re-integration spaces to keep students positively engaged with mainstream academy life.

The Ideal Candidate:

Proven background in pastoral support, SEND inclusion, behaviour welfare, or youth intervention within a secondary school or specialist setting.

Deep understanding of SEMH, ASC, ADHD, trauma, and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).

Knowledge of statutory SEND processes, EHCPs, and secondary school pastoral structures.

Calm, authoritative, and non-judgmental approach with strong emotional intelligence and clear boundary-setting.

De-escalation training (Team-Teach, MAPA, or equivalent) is advantageous.

Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or willing to process one prior to November 2026).

Package & Benefits:

Fair, Transparent Remuneration: Paid strictly to scale on the NJC (National Joint Council) support staff framework.

Predictable Working Hours: Monday to Friday, daytime hours (term time only-no evening shifts or weekends).

Continuous Professional Development: Access to accredited safeguarding, SEND, and behavioural management courses.

Positive Culture: A collaborative, well-resourced pastoral and SEND team with committed leadership.

Future Prospects: Temporary start offering the opportunity to establish yourself in a stable secondary setting.

How to Apply:

If you have the pastoral expertise and SEND commitment to champion student outcomes in Blackpool from November 2026, apply today with your up-to-date CV.
