Job Title: Pastoral Assistant

Location: Secondary School in the Southwark Borough

Contract Type: Long term until July 2025 + Full-Time £13 - £16 per hour - enhanced DBS on the update service required

Reports To: Head of Pastoral Care

Key Responsibilities:

1. Pastoral Support:

* Provide dedicated pastoral support to students, fostering a positive and inclusive school environment.

* Build relationships with students, offering guidance, and assisting in the resolution of personal and social issues.

2. Behaviour Management:

* Implement and reinforce the school's behaviour management policies, promoting a culture of respect and responsibility.

* Address behavioural concerns and support students in developing positive conduct.

3. Attendance Monitoring:

* Monitor student attendance and punctuality, collaborating with the school's attendance officer to address any issues promptly.

* Conduct follow-up activities to support students with irregular attendance.

4. Mental Health and Well-Being:

* Work closely with the school's well-being team to identify and support students' mental health needs.

* Implement well-being initiatives and interventions to enhance the emotional resilience of students.

5. Crisis Intervention:

* Assist in managing crises or emergencies involving students, providing immediate support and coordinating with relevant stakeholders.

6. Classroom Cover:

* Be prepared to cover classes in the absence of teachers, ensuring the continuation of a structured learning environment.

* Follow lesson plans provided by teachers and maintain a positive and focused classroom atmosphere.

7. Collaboration:

* Collaborate with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies to address the diverse needs of students.

* Attend and actively contribute to pastoral care meetings and team discussions.

8. Record Keeping:

* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to pastoral care, attendance, and behaviour.

* Generate reports as required and contribute to data analysis for pastoral care improvement.

9. Professional Development:

* Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to pastoral care and student support.

* Stay informed about relevant policies, procedures, and best practices in pastoral care.

Qualifications:

A degree in Education, Counselling, or a related field.

Relevant experience in a pastoral or student support role in an educational setting.

Skills and Attributes:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Empathetic and approachable with a genuine interest in student well-being.

Ability to manage crises calmly and effectively.

Adaptable and able to cover classes when required.
