Part-Time Junior Health & Safety Manager
Location: Thorne, Doncaster
Hours: 24 hours per week, with flexibility over how the hours are arranged
Salary: £24,000 per annum for 24 hours per week
Working arrangement: Site-based with potential for up to 50% home working
Contract: Permanent, part-time
The opportunity
An established specialist manufacturer based in Thorne is looking for a Junior Health & Safety Manager to support and develop its health and safety arrangements.
This is an excellent progression opportunity for an H&S Adviser, Coordinator, Officer or Technician who is ready to take greater ownership of a site’s health and safety function.
Reporting directly to the Directors, you will help maintain existing systems, identify practical improvements and ensure health and safety remains embedded within everyday manufacturing operations.
The business is not looking for somebody with decades of senior management experience. It needs a capable, proactive H&S professional who can develop into the position while remaining visible and approachable on the factory floor.
Key responsibilities
* Support the Directors with day-to-day health and safety matters.
* Maintain and review H&S policies, procedures and supporting documentation.
* Complete workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments.
* Review RAMS, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work.
* Monitor actions arising from audits, inspections and risk assessments.
* Assist with accident, incident and near-miss investigations.
* Work with managers and employees to improve safety awareness and working practices.
* Support employee inductions, toolbox talks and H&S training.
* Maintain accurate compliance, training and incident records.
* Monitor relevant legislation and help ensure continued legal compliance.
* Support the company’s annual GLOBALG.A.P. audit and associated improvement actions.
* Contribute to HACCP, food/feed safety and wider manufacturing-compliance activities.
* Provide practical advice without unnecessarily disrupting production.
* Develop in confidence and responsibility as the company’s internal H&S lead.
About you
You may currently be working as an H&S Adviser, Coordinator, Officer, Technician or junior-level Manager and be looking for your next step.
Ideally, you will have:
* Approximately two to five years’ practical health and safety experience.
* A NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification.
* Experience within manufacturing, engineering, warehousing, food, feed or another operational environment.
* Practical knowledge of risk assessments, COSHH, RAMS and incident investigation.
* Confidence engaging with employees, managers and Directors.
* A hands-on approach and willingness to spend time on the factory floor.
* Good written, organisational and record-keeping skills.
* The ability to work independently while recognising when further guidance is required.
Experience of HACCP, BRCGS, GLOBALG.A.P. or food/feed manufacturing would be advantageous but is not essential, as support and development can be provided.
