ROLE
Purpose
The Packaging Designer is responsible for creating a structural design that is fit for purpose and fit for manufacturing. Completing the configuration in the business system and ordering the approved tooling.
Key Duties:
• Liaises with NPD Coordinator to ensure customers’ requirements are clearly defined.
• Generates ArtiosCAD files which are in-line with the product specification and machine capabilities in response to the customer brief.
• Communicates directly with customer where necessary to ensure designs are correct for customer’s needs.
• Supplies keylines to customer as necessary advising of any technical issues.
• Carries out deckle calculations to ensure design is commercially viable before samples are despatched to customer.
• Communicates with production crews to ensure correct machine routing is selected and to eliminate any potential die-cut/gluing issues before jobs go to production.
• Updates configuration in business system and feeds back all relevant routing information to estimating team to enable accurate costing of product.
• Outputs files for sample making and assists Sample Maker as necessary to ensure all samples are dispatched in line with customers required due dates.
• Creates output files for tool ordering.
• Carries out tool order process and co-ordinates with external supplier to ensure timely delivery of die-cut tooling to the necessary production site.
• Carries out material checks for new jobs prior to order processing.
• Keeping up to date with machine limitations and ensuring that SAP and ArtiosCAD are updated accordingly.
• Updates the business system to show completion at all stages of the process and communicates to relevant stakeholders.
• Work towards completion of any/all objectives set within the PDR process each year.
CANDIDATE
- Must have designed corrugated packaging previously
- Worked with “Casemake” and “Artios CAD” software, ideally, some SAP experience too
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Not essential, but would be beneficial if you have previously had face-to-face interaction with similar customers (there will likely be travel to customer sites around once a month)
