Outreach, Engagement & Intervention Worker (Fixed-Term Contract)

Location: Colchester (covering Braintree, Chelmsford, Colchester & Tendring)
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, Term Time Only (39 working weeks)
Contract: Fixed-term until 31 August 2028
Salary: Scale 7, Points 19-24 (£27,486 - £30,359 pro rata, Pay Award Pending April 2026)

We are recruiting on behalf of a forward-thinking Academy Trust for an enthusiastic and compassionate Outreach, Engagement & Intervention Worker to join an exciting multi-hub Outreach Project supporting secondary schools across Mid and North East Essex.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who believes every young person deserves the chance to succeed, regardless of the challenges they face. You'll work alongside schools, families and partner agencies to promote inclusion, improve engagement in education and help reduce the risk of permanent exclusion.

The position will begin on a 12-week temporary assignment through our agency, with the successful candidate transferring to the Trust's employment for the remainder of the fixed-term contract until 31 August 2028, subject to successful completion of the temporary period.

The Role

Working as part of a dedicated outreach team, you will:

Deliver bespoke one-to-one and small group interventions for young people at risk of exclusion.
Support schools in improving attendance, engagement and behaviour.
Build positive relationships with pupils, families, school staff and external agencies.
Deliver trauma-informed interventions that promote social, emotional and educational development.
Provide practical advice and guidance to school staff to improve outcomes for vulnerable pupils.
Monitor, review and report on the impact of interventions.
Work independently across multiple school settings while maintaining strong collaborative relationships.

About You

We're looking for someone who has:

Experience working with young people to achieve positive educational and/or social outcomes.
A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and inclusive approaches.
Experience delivering effective one-to-one and small group interventions.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
The ability to remain calm, resilient and professional in challenging situations.
Experience working independently and managing their own workload.
A good understanding of schools, Alternative Provision, SEND or related support services.Applications are welcomed from candidates with backgrounds such as Teaching Assistant, Family Support, Youth Work, Social Care, Police Community Support, Education Welfare or similar roles.

Essential Requirements

Full UK driving licence.
Access to your own vehicle with business insurance.
Willingness to travel throughout Braintree, Chelmsford, Colchester and Tendring, with the employment base located at the Trust Office in Colchester.
GCSE (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
