TITLE: Operations Technician
LOCATION: Lisburn
SALARY: £12.86
HOURS: Full Time 37.5
JOB SUMMARY
This post will involve working in one or many specialist areas of ICT including but not limited to: technical support, applications support, service desk, software development, web design, communications & network support, desktop support, systems integration and data warehousing. Technicians may also be part of short or long term project teams either directly delivering services or working with commercial providers to implement project
KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Delivery
a. Provide ICT services as part of a specialist ICT services or project team
b. Proactive monitoring of Infrastructure and Application services
c. Technical support services for Infrastructure such as desktops and mobile clients, servers, operating systems, storage, networking and domain services (DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, etc.)
d. Development, configuration and support of databases
e. Develop and Modify software as directed
f. Develop user requirements and specifications for software and equipment
g. Carry out Business and Data analysis
h. Provide ICT Technical expertise, feedback and guidance
i. Work with software suppliers in the development and implementation of solutions
j. Testing and Review of products and solutions
k. Network and Security services such as TCP/IP network equipment and software, routers, switches, firewalls, etc
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
SECTION 1: The following are ESSENTIAL criteria which will initially be measured at shortlisting stage although may also be further explored during the interview/selection stage. 1. GCSE Mathematics & English (Grades A-C) OR equivalent qualification to demonstrate literacy and numeracy OR higher qualification
AND
2 x A Levels equivalent OR higher qualification
AND
At least 18 months relevant experience*
OR
At least 3 years relevant experience*
Software Development & Support environments: .Net, C#, Visual Basic, .NET, Unidata, Intersystems Cache, COBOL, Business Objects, C+, Java, Visual Studio, FoxPro, JavaScript, Oracle (Forms/Reports), Delphi, Filemaker, MS Access.
Web Design and Development environments: Apache, IIS, ASP, PHP. Also databases such as MSSQL and MySQL and Web design tools including Dreamweaver, Front Page, (X)HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Photoshop, Flash, ASP.NET, Reddot, and Livelink.
Communications and Network Support environments: Maintenance and support of communication networks hardware and facilities (primarily based on Cisco equipment) including routers, switches, firewalls and other similar hardware, and have an appreciation of IP networking.
Technical Support: Microsoft environments: Windows 7/8/10, Windows Server 2003/2008 & 2012, Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, SharePoint 2010/2013, MS Office 2007/2010/2013. Microsoft System Centre Suite. UNIX – IBM AIX, HPUX, Linux.
Virtualization technologies, VMware, PowerVM, Hyper-V.
Database – SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2014, Oracle, Unidata, Intersystems Cache
Others - Lotus Applications, Mac OSX. Shortlisting by Application Form
SECTION 2: The following are ESSENTIAL criteria which will be measured during the interview/ selection stage:
Skills / Abilities/ 1. Ability to work as an effective member of a team and a proven ability work on own initiative with minimum supervision;
2. Proven ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing (as appropriate to meet the needs of the post in full), and to establish good professional relationships;3. Experience in the use of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint;
4. Ability to undertake investigations, analyse complex data, present results in an appropriate manner and make sound recommendations;
5. Ability to work accurately, demonstrating attention to detail, whilst working to tight deadlines. Interview / Test
