Our client is a leading timber processor in the UK & Ireland, renowned for its dynamic growth and innovation in the Green Tech industry. One of their key business units is a bespoke facility in Irvine, equipped with state-of-the-art technology to manufacture timber frame homes and engineer roof trusses for the house-building sector. To support their ambitious growth plans, they are expanding their management team and are seeking an Operations Manager.

The role:

The Operations Manager will manage and coordinate the activities of manufacturing personnel to achieve production metrics, including throughput, changeover times, minimising downtime, and driving continuous improvement. Reporting to the Head of Timber Frame, the Operations Manager will ensure that all orders are manufactured and dispatched in a timely manner and that all operational, administrative, H&S, and business controls are adhered to.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure the plant meets its customer quality, service, and safety goals through effective management.

Lead and manage assigned operations manufacturing and/or support functions at the site.

Manage, direct, and lead project teams to develop and implement strategic changes within the plant.

Maintain a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with all H&S requirements and procedures.

Establish strong working relationships with all departments to ensure cohesive delivery of budgeted metrics and other key performance indicators.

Ensure that all product manufacturing procedures are fully implemented and adhered to in line with customer and regulatory expectations.

Oversee material delivery and returns in line with good manufacturing practice standards.

Ensure adequate resources are available for each shift based on the production schedule, controlling overtime spend and other production costs.

Ensure continual compliance with personnel, quality, engineering, and safety policies.

Ensure all manufacturing personnel are appropriately trained to carry out their roles optimally.

Recommend and implement improvements to standards, fostering a culture of continuous improvement in production and safety.

Take ownership of product procurement and stock control.

Maximise site uptime through a preventative maintenance programme.

Experience required: 

Experience with timber frame and roof truss manufacturing is an advantage but would consider other industries 

5 years’ experience operating at a similar level within a manufacturing facility.

Ability to engage with a design team to ensure manufacturing optimisation and on-time delivery.

Ability to engage and motivate production teams.

Ability to work under pressure in a changing environment to support customers.
