Operations Engineer

Glasgow

First People Solutions is working with a leading consulting engineer who are looking for an Operations Engineer to join their team, working on behalf of a major public sector client across Scotland's trunk road network.

The role focuses on the independent auditing, monitoring and assessment of Supplier performance, with responsibility for investigating technical, contractual and commercial issues and ensuring compliance, quality and value for money across the network.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced highways professional looking to move into a more technical assurance and audit-focused role, with exposure to a wide range of operational, technical and commercial issues.

The Role

Audit and assess Supplier performance against contractual and technical requirements
Investigate, analyse and report on technical compliance with Supplier contracts
Review programmes of work submitted by Suppliers and assess delivery and value for money
Investigate and assess technical solutions proposed by Suppliers, considering technical options, good practice and value for money
Review technical, contractual and commercial issues arising across the trunk road network
Carry out site inspections, investigations and audits where required
Provide clear technical findings, analysis and recommendations
Contribute to the ongoing auditing, monitoring and assessment of the operation and maintenance of the roads network

What We're Looking For

Chartered Civil Engineer or equivalent
8+ years' post-graduate experience within highways, roads or a related civil engineering environment
Significant experience in the construction, management, operation and/or maintenance of a roads network
Strong experience in auditing, monitoring, investigation and analysis of technical issues
Experience reviewing contractual and commercial issues within a highway's environment
Good understanding of roads network operations and maintenance processes
Strong analytical and report-writing skills
Confident assessing technical solutions, Supplier performance and contractual compliance
Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, Suppliers and wider stakeholders
