About the role
Balfour Beatty are looking for an Operational Auditor to join our Enabling Functions team based in Derby covering our audit requirements for the UK.
Balfour Beatty Group Enabling Functions teams are Legal, Finance, IT and Procurement, Communications, Health Safety and Environment, HR and Sustainability. Together, they support delivery of our Build to Last strategy whilst improving efficiencies and standardising our approach, systems and processes.
As an Operational Auditor you will conduct operational audits in line with the UK operational audit programme and to ensure the timely delivery of audits and effective management of corrective actions.
What you'll be doing
Assist in the support of external certifications
Delivery of part of the UK Operational Audit programme and process
Conduct effective operational audits, deemed to be value adding to the UK Business
Identifying nonconformities against UK BMS requirements and areas of risk / opportunity
Monitoring and management of audit findings and corrective actions
Production of appropriate reports
Assist in the support of associated Supplier Audit programmes
Ensure that Balfour Beatty’s Code of Conduct is thoroughly understood, adhered to and promoted across the business to ensure safe, compliant and consistent working practice.
Challenge the content of the UK BMS for effectiveness, governance and control.
Challenge the business to validate UK BMS compliance. Identify risk opportunities, nonconforming practice and opportunities for continual improvements.
To operate in an open and even handed manner with all personnel across the business. Treat all with courtesy and respect, as equals and embracing differences.
To productively contribute to teamwork and cross functional working.

Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are essential:
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion, using a high level of integrity
Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) in an objective manner
Ability to gather, analyse and evaluate facts
Makes appropriate judgements, and act accordingly without undue delay
Delivers accurate work, pays attention to detail and sees thing through to completion
Strong organisational, time management and workload prioritisation skills
Fully proficient user of modern office computer systems and technology, including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Holds a full, clean driving licence.
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
Prior operational experience in construction and/or manufacturing environments
Is able to work within a multi-discipline team
Able to build strong relationships with delivery teams and stakeholders.
Lead Auditor trained and has delivered internal and external audits
Experience in Quality Management
Experience or awareness of Health & Safety and/or environmental legislation and controls
Experience in investigations and/or aspects of Root Cause Analysis
Knowledge of ISO standards and associated industry requirements for HSEQS
