About the Role

I am currently recruiting for a Night Shift Production Manager to join a leading food manufacturing business at their high-volume site in Barnsley. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced production leader who has worked within a fast-paced, high-risk food or meat manufacturing environment and is confident managing large teams across multiple production lines.

The site operates at pace across 7 to 8 production lines, so the successful candidate will need to be hands-on, commercially aware and comfortable leading people, performance, safety, quality and output on a busy night shift.

The Role

As Night Shift Production Manager, you will take responsibility for leading a team of approximately 45 people across a high-volume, fast-paced food manufacturing operation. You will be accountable for delivering production plans, driving line performance, maintaining food safety and quality standards, and ensuring your team operates safely and efficiently throughout the shift.

Hours: Night shift, 12-hour shifts. The pattern is Sunday through to Tuesday, with Saturdays included every other week.

Key Responsibilities

As Night Shift Production Manager, you will:

Lead, manage and develop a night shift production team of approximately 45 people.
Take ownership of production performance across 7 to 8 lines in a high-volume, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Deliver the night shift production plan while ensuring output, efficiency, labour utilisation and quality targets are achieved.
Maintain strong standards across food safety, hygiene, technical compliance and health and safety throughout the shift.
Drive a proactive, visible management style on the factory floor, supporting teams to resolve issues quickly and keep lines running effectively.
Monitor KPIs, investigate performance gaps and implement corrective actions to improve productivity, waste, downtime and right-first-time standards.
Work closely with Engineering, Technical, Hygiene, Planning and Warehouse teams to ensure smooth shift handovers and operational delivery.
Coach, support and engage your team to create a positive, accountable and performance-led night shift culture.
Ensure effective communication across shifts, escalating issues where needed and maintaining clear standards for the team.
Lead by example to maintain excellent housekeeping, hygiene and GMP standards across the production area.
The Ideal Candidate

This role would suit an experienced Production Manager, Shift Manager or Manufacturing Manager who is used to operating in a demanding, high-volume food manufacturing environment. High-risk food or meat manufacturing experience is essential.

Essential experience within high-risk food manufacturing or meat production.
Proven experience leading sizeable teams in a fast-paced manufacturing or production environment.
Strong understanding of production line management, ideally across multiple lines in a high-volume site.
Confident managing safety, quality, hygiene, GMP and food safety standards on shift.
Comfortable working nights and managing 12-hour shifts within a demanding operational environment.
A visible, hands-on leadership style with strong communication, planning and problem-solving skills.
Ability to drive performance, accountability and continuous improvement across people, process and production output.
