Description:

Our client, a leading organisation in the defence and security sector, is seeking a Senior Navigation Engineer to join its highly capable Guidance, Control and Navigation team in Bristol. This permanent role offers the opportunity to contribute to advanced systems, combining hands-on technical engineering, research and strategic influence without line management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Developing and analysing sophisticated guidance, control and navigation algorithms throughout the systems full lifecycle
Contributing to the specification, design, implementation and verification of real-time guidance and control architectures
Working with complex systems and equipment, including RF and infrared seekers, inertial sensors, actuators, propulsion systems and launch platform interfaces
Influencing the future direction of guidance and control design, testing and technical strategy
Defining clear engineering requirements and objectives from complex technical challenges
Managing system complexity by identifying the key technical drivers within interconnected engineering environments
Diagnosing system abnormalities through physical investigation, computer modelling and simulation using MATLAB and Simulink
Collaborating across departments, directorates and national boundaries from early research and concept development through to full-scale development and guided flight trials

Job Requirements:

Extensive experience in aerospace guidance, control and navigation specification, analysis, algorithm design and implementation
Strong understanding of navigation systems, sensors, algorithms, real-time architecture and systems verification
Ability to cross-verify complex systems and system models against underlying theory
Experience using MATLAB and Simulink for modelling, simulation and engineering analysis
Ability to communicate complex or conceptually difficult ideas clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to define engineering challenges and establish unambiguous requirements
Ability to provide technical influence where wider programme or operational factors affect engineering decisions
Interest in control applications, preferably applied flight control, would be advantageous

Additional Information:

This role requires attendance on site in Bristol five days per week due to workload classification
