Job Role: Music Tutor
Location: HMYOI Werrington
Salary: From £30,000 per annum (Pro Rata)
Contract: Permanent, part-time
Hours: 22.5 hours per week (3 days per week)
  
Role Overview
We are recruiting a creative and passionate Music Tutor to deliver high-quality music education within a custodial environment at HMYOI Werrington.
As a Music Tutor, you will design and deliver engaging learning programmes that inspire, challenge and develop learners through music, performance and collaborative creative activities. You will help learners build confidence, resilience and positive behaviours while supporting them to develop new skills and achieve meaningful outcomes.
Working as part of the Education, Skills & Work team, you will contribute to a safe, purposeful and rehabilitative learning environment, embedding literacy, numeracy and personal development within music-based learning. Key Responsibilities
Teaching, Learning & Delivery

Plan and deliver engaging music lessons and creative learning activities
Develop programmes that encourage participation, performance and personal expression
Deliver inclusive learning that meets the needs of learners with varying abilities and backgrounds
Use a range of teaching methods to promote learner engagement and achievement
Support learners to develop musical, creative and interpersonal skills   
Learner Development & Progression

Encourage confidence, resilience and positive behaviour through creative activity
Support learners to achieve accredited and non-accredited learning outcomes
Promote personal development, teamwork and communication skills
Help learners identify progression routes linked to education, training and employment
Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback Embedding Core Skills

Embed reading, literacy and communication skills throughout delivery
Incorporate Maths and English development within learning activities where appropriate
Support wider employability and life skills development
Promote restorative approaches and positive citizenship Quality, Compliance & Safeguarding

Maintain accurate learner records and documentation
Ensure delivery meets quality assurance and curriculum requirements
Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion at all times
Contribute to a safe and supportive learning environment
Work in line with prison security procedures and organisational policies Partnership & Team Working

Work collaboratively with Education, Skills & Work colleagues
Support cross-curriculum initiatives and enrichment activities
Contribute to learner reviews, progress meetings and quality improvement activities
Build positive working relationships with prison staff and support teams   
Essential Criteria

Strong vocational background in Music, Music Performance, Music Production or a related discipline
Experience delivering music education, training, workshops or learner-focused activities
Ability to engage and motivate learners from diverse backgrounds
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to plan and deliver creative, inclusive learning sessions
Understanding of safeguarding and learner welfare
Strong organisational and classroom management skills   
Desirable Criteria

Teaching qualification (AET, PTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent)
Experience working within custodial, alternative education or youth settings
Experience delivering accredited music qualifications
Knowledge of restorative practice approaches
Experience supporting learners with additional learning needs
