Location: Woking, Surrey and surrounding areas

Hours: Permanent, full-time, field-based position, Monday to Friday. Paid travel and enhanced overtime available.

Would you like to join a supportive engineering business where you can manage your own regional workload while receiving the backing, equipment and training needed to do the job properly?

Our client is seeking an experienced Fire & Security Engineer to provide planned and reactive support to customers from their base in and around Surrey. Working across commercial premises, public-sector buildings and larger operational sites, you will be responsible for keeping a wide range of life safety and electronic security systems operating reliably.

This is a varied field role combining servicing, fault diagnosis, repairs, upgrades and smaller installation works. Applicants should have broad fire and security experience, although particular value will be placed on engineers who are confident with CCTV, intruder alarms, access control and door entry systems. You should also be capable of servicing and fault-finding conventional and addressable fire alarm equipment without close supervision.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

Completing planned preventative maintenance visits across customer sites

Responding to system faults and breakdowns, identifying the cause and completing effective repairs

Servicing CCTV, intruder alarm, access control and door entry systems

Testing, maintaining and repairing conventional and addressable fire alarm systems

Carrying out small installations, system extensions, upgrades and equipment replacements

Inspecting panels, field devices, cabling, power supplies and networked equipment

Explaining faults, completed work and further recommendations clearly to customers

Producing accurate electronic job reports and service documentation

Ensuring work is completed in line with relevant standards, site procedures and health and safety requirements

Participating in an out-of-hours call-out rota, currently approximately one week in twelve

You will usually work independently but will have access to technical support and additional engineering resources when required.

About You

We are looking for an engineer who can demonstrate:

Previous field-based experience within the fire and security industry

Broad knowledge of electronic security systems, including CCTV, intruder alarms and access control

Practical experience maintaining and repairing fire alarm systems

Confidence identifying faults across panels, detectors, devices, circuits and networked equipment

The ability to work efficiently across planned maintenance, reactive calls and small works

A professional and customer-focused approach when working on occupied sites

Good organisation and the ability to manage appointments across a regional territory

An understanding of relevant health and safety procedures and industry standards

A full UK driving licence

Experience with manufacturers such as Gent, Advanced, Notifier, Morley, C-tec, Galaxy, Texecom, Hikvision, Dahua, Paxton, PAC or similar systems would be useful.

Additional experience with gates, barriers, intercoms, disabled refuge or nurse call equipment would also be welcomed but is not essential, as product training can be provided.

Salary and Package

The basic rate is £21–£24 per hour, equivalent to approximately £42,500–£50,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Travel is paid after the first 30 minutes of each journey, helping to ensure engineers are properly rewarded for time spent travelling to and from customer sites.

The package also includes:

Evening overtime paid at x1.5 times the standard hourly rate

Late shifts and weekend work paid at x2 double time

Additional payment for call-out rota participation

Company van and fuel

Laptop, mobile phone, tools and test equipment

25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays

Healthcare provision

Company pension

Technical and manufacturer training

Opportunities to broaden your knowledge across additional systems

This role offers the chance to join an established engineering team with a strong customer base, a manageable regional territory and a varied mix of service and technical work. It would suit a dependable engineer who wants competitive earnings, paid travel, regular overtime and the opportunity to continue building their skills across both fire and security systems.
