Overview:
First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer on behalf of one of our clients.
The successful candidate will join an experienced engineering team at a busy, high-volume manufacturing site in Leeds, keeping plant machinery, utilities and site equipment running safely and efficiently through planned and reactive maintenance. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys problem-solving and fault finding, and the client is looking to have the right person in post for a January 2027 start.
Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel, particularly former Navy Marine Engineers and Armed Forces personnel with strong mechanical and electrical experience; however, all candidates will be given due consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on plant machinery and site equipment
Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults to minimise downtime
Work on PLC-controlled systems, 3-phase motors, boilers, bearings, conveyors and associated machinery
Complete routine inspections and maintenance checks
Support production teams to ensure equipment reliability and performance
Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
Follow Health & Safety procedures and safe systems of work
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering projects
Respond to breakdowns and call-outs when required
Help maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment
Skills and Qualifications:
Strong mechanical engineering experience, supported by good electrical fault-finding skills
Previous experience maintaining and repairing industrial or production machinery
A methodical approach to diagnosing faults and implementing effective solutions
Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to breakdowns
A flexible, team-focused attitude with a willingness to support operational requirements
Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with colleagues across all departments
A strong commitment to Health & Safety and continuous improvement
Desirable:
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Experience with PLC-controlled equipment and automated systems
Background in manufacturing, FMCG, production or industrial environments
Engineering experience gained within the Armed Forces or another highly disciplined technical environment
