Description:
Our client, a freight forwarder is looking for a Multi Modal Operations Manager to join their office in Egham.
The post-holder will be responsible for:
* Managing day-to-day multimodal freight operations across air, road and sea, including owning jobs from start to finish, including;
* quoting,
* raising files,
* completion of jobs- including Customs,
* arranging transport,
* ensuring both the file and BoxTop system are fully up to date with all relevant information, including accrual of all costs, prior to final billing,
* Planning and optimising freight routes to balance cost, speed, and reliability
* Overseeing relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and third-party logistics providers (3PLs)
* Ensuring compliance with UK and international customs regulations, including HMRC requirements, import/export controls, and where relevant, IATA or IMO rules
* Managing freight documentation
* Monitoring KPIs such as on-time delivery, cost per shipment, cargo damage rates, and carrier performance
* Identifying and managing risks including delays, capacity constraints, and geopolitical disruptions
* Driving continuous improvement across processes and systems
Person Specification
Essential:
* Demonstrable experience in freight, logistics, or supply chain operations, ideally across more than one transport mode.
* Experience in negotiating contract rates with shipping lines and merchant hauliers for containerised deliveries.
* Experience with using ASM Sequoia, CNS & Destin8 systems and various customs procedures.
* Strong knowledge of UK and international customs and trade compliance.
* Experience managing third-party carrier and supplier relationships.
* Commercial mindset with the ability to negotiate rates and manage freight budgets.
* Strong problem-solving ability in a fast-moving, time-sensitive environment.
* Ability to proactively identify and resolve problems
Desirable:
* A strong existing client portfolio
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in ocean freight imports
* Experience with using BoxTop/Descartes, not essential but preferred
* Familiarity with dangerous goods regulations (ADR, IMDG, IATA DGR)
