As our project support grows, we need experienced metrology technicians and metrologists for interesting automotive component checking including various cutting-edge components for this R&D/pre-production and new technologies operation.

The metrologist opportunity:

Reporting to the Metrology Supervisor and Working as part of a small but highly skilled team of metrologists, metrology inspectors and product technicians. The role includes a mix of CMM and remote checking using a variety of measuring equipment across a range of automotive components including gears, mechanisms, powertrain casings, combustion engine parts, and battery EV and Electronic Drive units.

The metrologist will be responsible for, but not limited to:

* Measurement of a multitude of complex machined automotive components using varying types of measurement equipment

* Daily laboratory activities to support requirements for Metrology requests.

* Producing comprehensive measurement reports

* Technical support to all levels of internal stakeholders and customers

* An open, honest, inclusive and collaborative approach, striving for high quality results

You’ll be responsible for all safety precautions associated with your role. You’ll demonstrate safe working practices and will be ready to challenge your colleagues to do the same. You’ll also be empowered to drive process and facility improvements as the function grows.

* Constructing and understanding process/work instructions from and with the client.

Technical skills and experience of the metrologist:

* Experienced in complex mechanical / machined components, ideally gear metrology and geometry.

* Have detailed knowledge of optical measurement, GOM / Zeiss inspect.

* Experience using Taylor Hobson Ultra software & Talymap Contour

* Experience using Mountains Map software.

* Good level of experience / knowledge in programming Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMMs) using Quindos, PC-DMIS or Calypso

* Experience in Portable metrology systems i.e. Romer Arm & Leica Tracker

* Experience in a product development environment.

* Knowledge of Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) and Statistical Process Control (SPC)

* Understanding or familiarity with automotive systems, practices and procedures (ISO/IATF 16949, ISO 17025, etc.)

The ideal metrologist candidate will have the following skills and experience:

* An organised, resilient individual with the ability to think outside the box and utilise their metrology, parts inspection and analysis experience for production and quality process resolution and to promptly complete tasks

* Candidates should have an indentured apprenticeship or minimum BTEc/City & Guilds Level 3 qualification in engineering

* Detailed knowledge of metrology, first principles and measurement equipment.

* Can competently read and interpret engineering drawings – using CAD interrogation if needed with engineering support (GD&T & alignment systems)

* Computer literate (Microsoft packages software – Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

* High attention to detail and focus on quality. Right first time.

* Good verbal and written communications

* Experience of 5S / general housekeeping duties, keeping equipment and work area orderly and performing basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment

* Knowledge of H&S and environmental requirements, inc Risk Assessment

* Experience of coordinating activities to meet deliverables, including work assignments.

* Must have a positive, flexible attitude and enjoy working in a team.

* A full driving license, commitment, flexibility and self-motivation.

Job Type: Contract - 6 months duration min.

Working Schedule: This project rotates on shifts on a weekly basis, which are as follows:

· AM Shift: Mon – Thurs 06:00am – 14:00pm / Fri 06:00am – 11:00am

· PM Shift: Mon – Thurs 14:00pm – 22:00pm / Fri 11:00am – 16:00pm

Benefits include: £18 - £20 p/hr - Inside IR35
