Are you a caring, resilient, and enthusiastic Mental Health Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding opportunity within a specialist school? Do you have experience supporting children or young people with mental health, emotional, or additional needs?
A welcoming and inclusive Specialist School in Reading is looking for a committed Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for a Mental Health Teaching Assistant to provide high-quality 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a range of mental health and additional needs, including SEMH, anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, autism (ASD), ADHD, and behavioural needs.
This Mental Health Teaching Assistant role will involve:
Providing tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with mental health and SEN needs
Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, confidence, and social development
Helping pupils manage anxiety, frustration, and challenging emotions
Developing positive and trusting relationships with pupils
Encouraging positive engagement with learning and classroom activities
Helping to create a calm, structured, and supportive classroom environment
Supporting teachers with learning activities and targeted interventions
Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and other support professionals
Encouraging pupils to develop independence, resilience, and positive coping strategies

Well-connected Reading location with excellent transport linksIf you have previous experience working with children or young people, particularly within education, mental health, youth work, care, or an SEN setting, we would love to hear from you. Experience supporting pupils with SEMH or mental health needs is desirable, but a patient and empathetic approach, resilience, and willingness to learn are equally important for this Mental Health Teaching Assistant position.
