We have a great new role become available for a Registered Mental Health Nurse to work for Gwent Police at their headquarters in Cwmbran.

This will be a part-time position working 20 hours a week - M/T/W or M/W/F example. Days and hours are flexible (equate to 20 hours per week)

PLEASE NOTE DUE TO POLICE VETTING CRITERIA YOU MUST HAVE RESIDED WITHIN THE UK CONTINUOUSLY FOR AT LEAST 5 YEARS AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join the Occupational Health Team to provide support and advice to the clinical team, officers and staff in relation to mental health issues. The role will require the suitable applicant to take the lead for the team regarding mental health, liaising with staff and management, triaging management referrals and undertaking case management consultations. Taking the lead on psychological monitoring and liaising with external agencies where appropriate. A good knowledge of cognitive behavioural therapy is desirable but not essential .

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

To oversee the effective day to day running of the Force's psychological provision ensuring compliance with standards, legislation and clinical governance and provide the Senior OHA an accurate picture of the psychological health of the Force including statistical information where relevant
To effectively triage and case manage all referrals for psychological support, liaising/referring to external providers, The Wellbeing Team, OHA's and the FMA as required
To undertake individual sickness absence assessments for Officers and Staff relating to psychological health issues, formulating management reports, return to work plans and rehabilitation programmes where required.
To consult with Managers, HR and other relevant stakeholders to support case management, sickness absence, attend case conferences / meetings as required and provide relevant professional advice as required.
Liaise with other force leads, both locally and nationally on all aspects of Mental Health within Policing and ensuring appropriate up to date programmes of support are implemented.
To provide support following a critical incident using appropriate tools and techniques
Develop and deliver presentations / training sessions to promote Mental Health and wellbeing within the Force
Participate in the provision of the Force's vaccination programme, health promotion, medical screening and health surveillance programmes, as directed by the OH&W ManagerKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be a registered Mental Health Nurse (RN3/RNMH) on part 1 of the NMC Register, with a valid PIN
Should hold a UK recognised qualification in Counselling / Psychotherapy and be able to provide CBT or equivalent Psychological intervention.
Must have previous experience of working in a mental health setting for at least 2 years.
Must be able to demonstrate previous experience of managing a case load with a broad spectrum of aetiology including Trauma.
Must be able to demonstrate continuous professional development and working towards revalidation
Must have completed a suicide prevention course
Must be a TRiM practitioner or be prepared to attend a course to become a Practitioner.
Must have the ability and experience in providing psychological support to individuals dealing with difficult emotional or traumatic situations.
Must uphold professional standards, acting as a role model and be able to demonstrate self-care strategies, promoting these techniques to the wider team and Force.
Must be confident to lead 'group sessions' on a variety of mental health subjects.
Deliver training or presentations and undertake presentation training if required.
Must be IT literate and proficient in Microsoft applications, including Word, excel and PowerPoint and be prepared to undertake training in other IT applications as required.
Desirable to be vaccination trained or be prepared to undertake training in order to support the OH provision if required
Desirable to be able to undertake medical assessments such as; hearing/lung function assessments, BMI/body stats, (supported by the OHA's) or be prepared to undertake training as required.
Must have a sound knowledge of Mental Health Legislation including the Mental Health Act 1983 (updated by the 2007 Act), Equality Act, Health and Safety at Work Act, Medical Records Act, Data Protection Act and GDPR,
Where appropriate, the post holder will be expected to implement specialist therapeutic intervention, (cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) or equivalent) in line with National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines
Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills including the ability to influence others positively, resolve conflict and deal with sensitive issues and manage conflict.
Be able to work independently in a timely and organised manner, however, acknowledge when to signpost clients to other specialist services or escalate concerns to the Senior OHA, FMA, GP or other Health Care Practitioner for advice guidance and support where required.
To identify any service 'gaps', or underperformance with service provision and discuss improvement proposals with the Senior OHA.
To identify any learning needs and discuss training requirements with the Senior OHA or OH&W Manager immediately.
To deliver advice and guidance on complex issues to the point of resolution.
To be able to work flexibly from a variety of locations, such as the Occupational Health Unit, Police Stations, Training
A positive 'can-do' attitude and flexible approach is essential
Positive engagement with the Occupational Health and Well-being Team to promote services and provide peer support.
