Job Title: Medical Laboratory Assistant

Grade: Band 2

Location: Worcester Royal Hospital Charles Hastings Way Worcester WR5 1DD

Pay Rates: £12.92 per hour exc WTD

Shift Patterns: 37.5 hours – Monday to Friday – 12:30 till 20:00 (There maybe occasional day shifts too which would be 09:00 – 17:30)

Length: 3 months

Job Overview:

We are looking for a motivated and reliable Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our laboratory team in Worcester. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and detail-focused individual who is passionate about supporting high-quality patient care through accurate and efficient laboratory services.

Responsibilities:

· Provide support service to BMS staff – Preparation and processing of simple laboratory tests, preparation and processing of Pathology samples involving pre-analytical procedures.

· Co-ordinate the receipt and handling of samples and reports from other laboratories.

· Accurately enter patient and request data onto the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), making appropriate amendments as required.

· Respond to telephone calls from medical and nursing staff within the hospital, or staff from surgeries and clinics, so that requests for results, additional/urgent investigations and technical advice are dealt with to the satisfaction of the caller.

· Co-ordinate and participate in the scanning of request forms so that electronic images are readily available for the technical validation / clinical interpretation of results.

· Assist senior staff within the department with general office and laboratory duties.

Skills:

· Evidence of a good level of literacy and numeracy.

· Experience of working in a Clinical or laboratory environment is desirable.

· Ability to organise, prioritise and work at different speeds with dexterity and accuracy whilst paying attention to detail

· Ability to handle a variety of telephone enquiries appropriately.

· Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently with all staff groups and members of the public.

In addition to experience, all Qualified roles will be required to provide evidence of

· Relevant Qualifications

· Registration with the relevant Registration Body if applicable.
