Branta is partnered with a reputable, fast-growing North East mechanical contractor to appoint an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer. Backed by a secure pipeline of major commercial schemes, industrial facilities, and public sector developments across the region, this role offers hands-on delivery exposure and clear progression within a specialist mechanical team.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will oversee complete mechanical packages from design handover through to final commissioning—placing a heavy emphasis on plant room fit-outs, commercial gas infrastructure, district heating, and welded/crimped pipework services.

Key Responsibilities

*

Mechanical & Gas Package Delivery: Lead the on-site coordination of core mechanical services, including primary boiler plant rooms, commercial gas supply infrastructure, district heating pipework, pumps, heat exchangers, and public health installations.

*

Technical Reviews & Compliance: Scrutinise mechanical drawings, technical submittals, and material take-offs against IGEM standards, Gas Safety Regulations, and CIBSE/BSRIA benchmarks; compile comprehensive testing, purging, and O&M documentation.

*

Site Quality & Commissioning: Supervise mechanical sub-contractors and pipefitters/welders; conduct site QA/QC audits, manage gas tightness testing and water treatment/flushing processes, and resolve physical site clashes.

*

Stakeholder & Subcontractor Coordination: Act as the direct technical bridge between commercial clients, Gas Safe registered specialists, design consultants, and internal project managers.

Candidate Profile

*

Technical Background: HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services, OR time-served mechanical/pipefitting/heating background with proven site engineering experience.

*

Specialist Knowledge: In-depth technical grasp of commercial gas pipework, boiler houses, heating networks, pump sets, and plant room installations.

*

Delivery Track Record: Proven background delivering commercial mechanical packages from pre-commencement through to testing and handover.

*

Certifications: Valid CSCS card; valid or expired Commercial Gas Safe tickets (e.g., COCN1, ICPN1, TPCP1/1A) and SMSTS/SSSTS are strongly advantageous.
