Job Title: Mechanical Fitter (NG Person, MEWP Operator, Lift Supervisor, Slinger/Signaller)
Job Summary: As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical components in National Grid substations. This role requires a combination of technical skills and safety qualifications, including NG Person authorisation, MEWP operation, lift supervision, and slinging/signalling.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
* Perform mechanical fitting tasks in compliance with National Grid’s safety standards.
* Operate Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) to access and work on equipment at height.
* Supervise lifting operations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
* Act as a Slinger/Signaller, directing the movement of loads using hand and radio signals.
* Collaborate with the engineering team to ensure the integrity and reliability of mechanical systems.
Qualifications:
* Recognised Mechanical Fitting qualification or equivalent experience.
* Valid National Grid Person authorisation.
* Certified MEWP operator with experience in various types of MEWPs.
* Qualified Lift Supervisor with experience in supervising complex lifting operations.
* Certified Slinger/Signaller with the ability to communicate effectively during lifting operations.
Skills:
* Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
* Proficient in the use of MEWPs and safety harnesses.
* Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics.
* Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Experience:
* Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter in an industrial or utility setting.
* Experience working within National Grid substations
