Mechanical Field Service Engineer

UK-Wide Field Role | Workshop & Site-Based | Heavy Industry
£35,000 + Overtime + Company Van 

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to join a specialist engineering team supporting customers across the UK heavy industrial sector.
This is a hands-on, varied role split between workshop engineering and field service work, carrying out installation, maintenance, fault finding, and repair on mechanical systems used in demanding environments such as quarries, foundries, steel plants, and processing facilities.
You’ll be trusted as a key engineer responsible for keeping critical plant and equipment running reliably.
What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Field Service Engineer / Mechanical Fitter, you will:

Install, service, and repair mechanical plant and industrial equipment
Carry out pipefitting, pipework installation, and mechanical assembly
Diagnose and repair faults on:
Industrial pumps and pumping systems
Electric motors and drive systems
Bearings and rotating machinery
Pneumatic systems (and associated components)
Complete workshop-based refurbishment, rebuilds, and preparation work
Attend customer sites across the UK to carry out planned and reactive maintenance
Work in heavy industrial environments including quarries, foundries, and manufacturing plants
Provide technical support and on-site problem solving for customers
Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to engineering standards
About You (What We’re Looking For)

We are keen to speak with candidates who have experience as a:

Field Service Engineer (Mechanical)

Mechanical Fitter

Maintenance Engineer

Plant Fitter / Plant Engineer

Industrial Service Engineer

Workshop / Site Engineer

You will ideally have:

Strong mechanical engineering background (time-served or equivalent)
Proven pipefitting and mechanical assembly experience
Hands-on experience with pumps, motors, bearings, and rotating equipment
Exposure to pneumatic systems (hydraulics also beneficial)
Experience working in heavy industry (quarry, foundry, steel, aggregates, etc.)
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
Ability to work independently on field assignments
Full UK driving licence
The Role & Working Pattern:

Approx. 40 hours per week
Split between workshop and UK field service work
Early Friday finish (when workload allows)
UK-wide travel with occasional overnight stays
Typically 3–4 nights away per month
Around 4 weeks per year on extended assignments
