Mechanical Estimator - The Role
This hands-on role involves producing Mechanical tenders, breaking down client enquiries, organizing and completing surveys, and preparing detailed estimates, tenders, and quotations. Your goal will be to ensure opportunities are estimated competitively, successfully, and profitably.
You will support the business in client meetings and presentations to help secure tenders. Using your industry experience, you'll help refine the estimation process to improve efficiency, clarity, and accuracy while reducing costs.
Your responsibilities will include reviewing tender documentation, obtaining competitive quotations, and producing accurate net estimates with full breakdowns. You will liaise with the estimating team and project managers, develop relationships with design consultants, main contractors, and clients, and understand and interpret specifications. You'll compile and present complete estimates to the Commercial Manager/Directors, attend pre/post-tender interviews, and handle post-tender queries up to the point of order.
Additionally, you'll prepare tenders, send out enquiries for materials, liaise with sub-contractors, measure and assess quantities, and work with the Ensign estimating software. You'll also support Project Managers with variations and final accounts, ensure tenders are chased after submission, keep directors and managers informed of bid prospects, and maintain the company's estimating procedures. You will be based in the office near Southampton.
Mechanical Estimator - Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should have a solid understanding of Mechanical estimating and previous experience in the construction industry, ideally in a similar role. You should have a background in Estimating, Project & Bid Management, allowing you to interpret detailed Technical Works Scope documentation, identify and mitigate commercial risks, and plan workloads to meet client deadlines. Ideally, you have at least 5 years of experience quoting packages from £50k–1.5m, a mechanical and ventilation bias, and familiarity with estimating packages.
Remuneration:
The salary for this role ranges from £40,000 to £65,000, depending on your skills and experience.
