Description:

Location: East London

Salary: Competitive salary + pension and healthcare

The Client:

Put your mechanical maintenance skills to work on the infrastructure keeping London homes and businesses supplied with heating, cooling and power. Our client develops and operates low-carbon energy networks, combining established plant with technologies such as heat pumps and waste-heat recovery.
You will join an engineering operation where effective maintenance makes a direct difference to customers, equipment reliability and energy efficiency.

The Role:

Enjoy diagnosing faults, solving practical problems and keeping plant running? This is a hands-on mechanical maintenance role across East London energy centres and heat networks, with a varied mix of planned servicing, breakdown response and equipment improvements.

Working with equipment such as pumps, valves, boilers, heat exchangers and associated mechanical systems, you will investigate the cause of faults, carry out repairs and help prevent repeat failures. You will work alongside engineers and specialist contractors, supporting safe, reliable services.

District heating experience is welcome, but transferable maintenance experience is also valuable. We are keen to hear from engineers in utilities, power generation, manufacturing, process plants or technically demanding facilities who can demonstrate relevant mechanical skills.

Preventive Maintenance:

* Deliver planned maintenance tasks, checking equipment condition and identifying defects before they cause failures.

* Keep clear inspection, testing and repair records using the maintenance management system.

Safety & Compliance:

* Work in line with risk assessments, safe operating procedures, permits and health, safety and environmental requirements.

* Identify and report unsafe conditions, defects and compliance concerns promptly.

* Support and oversee specialist contractors within your competence and assigned responsibilities.

Upgrades & Improvements:

* Identify practical ways to improve plant performance, reduce energy consumption and prevent avoidable downtime.

* Assist with equipment replacements, installations and system upgrades.

* Share maintenance findings and recommendations with the engineering and Asset Assurance teams.

Inventory Management:

* Monitor essential mechanical spares, tools and consumables so maintenance can be completed efficiently.

* Keep stock records accurate and flag replacement requirements before shortages affect repairs.

Collaboration & Training:

* Work with engineering colleagues, operations and external specialists to resolve faults and coordinate maintenance.

* Share practical knowledge and support junior technicians and apprentices.

* Complete relevant mandatory training and work with SHEQ and Compliance colleagues on role-specific competence and technical appointments.

Skills & Competencies

* A recognized NVQ level 3 qualification in Mechanical, plumbing or heating

* Practical mechanical maintenance and fault-finding experience on operational plant or comparable equipment.

* Confidence with pumps, valves, heating or cooling plant, rotating equipment or other transferable mechanical systems.

* An understanding of how mechanical equipment interfaces with electrical and control systems, working within your competence.

* Familiarity with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), or the ability to maintain accurate digital work records
