Job Description - Engineering Supervisor / Senior Maintenance Engineer

Location: Greater Manchester
Salary: £60,000 per annum
Hours: 50 hours per week
Shift Pattern: 5 x 10-hour shifts
Reporting To: Engineering Manager

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on engineering professional to support the Engineering Manager in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plant and production equipment.

Working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, you will play a key role in reducing downtime, driving preventative maintenance activities, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring engineering standards are maintained across the site.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Engineering Manager in the day-to-day running of the engineering and maintenance function.
Ensure all plant machinery and equipment are maintained to maximise uptime and operational efficiency.
Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults effectively.
Lead and support engineering projects, installations, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture across the site.
Ensure compliance with company policies, engineering standards, and statutory regulations.
Assist with contractor management and supervision of engineering activities.
Identify root causes of recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
Maintain accurate maintenance records and engineering documentation.
Work closely with production and operational teams to minimise disruption and improve plant performance.
Support training, mentoring, and development of engineering team members where required.

Skills & Experience Required

Essential

Proven engineering experience within a manufacturing, industrial, or process environment.
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
Experience with preventative and reactive maintenance systems.
Sound understanding of health and safety legislation and engineering best practices.
Ability to work independently and make effective decisions under pressure.
Excellent communication, planning, and organisational skills.
Strong problem-solving ability and a continuous improvement mindset.

Desirable

Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND, or equivalent).
Experience within polymer, rubber, plastics, chemical, automotive, or other process manufacturing environments.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
