Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Manager
Royal Berkshire Hospital - Reading RG1 5AN

Band 8a £29.33/hr - 37.5 hours per week - Monday to Friday with some flexibility depending upon deadlines.
Temporary to Permanent role for the right candidate.

The Mechanical & Electrical is a pivotal role in which oversees the implementation of the Trust's pre-planned maintenance program, manage reactive and remedial works, and is a driver of minor project initiatives. As a key member of the engineering team, the post holder ensures the resilience of the estates engineering services, minimizes downtime, and upholds compliance with statutory regulations and HTM guidelines.

Key responsibilities of the role

Hold overall responsibility for all low-voltage (HTM06-02) and high-voltage (HTM06-03) electrical works at Royal Berkshire Hospital, ensuring resilience of engineering services, timely defect resolution, and emergency responses to minimize downtime, reflected in assurance reports.
Ensure a safe and compliant estates infrastructure within assigned areas, overseeing statutory and preventative maintenance completed by service providers within SLAs and agreed KPIs.
Serve as the primary liaison point with the Building Manager to implement electrical services for the estate's directorate.
Manage budgets and generate reports to meet Trust requirements.
Perform various day-to-day tasks, including acting as a gateway for assigned estates areas, overseeing routine, reactive, and remedial maintenance, managing minor works and projects, conducting risk management updates, health and safety inspections, audits, improvement actions, and attending internal governance meetings and stakeholder meetings.
Participate in out-of-hours duty manager rota and support engineering activities during scheduled tests and shutdowns.A full job specification sheet is available upon request for all applicants.

Experience and qualifications

Educated to HNC/HND level in Electrical Engineering with specialist knowledge in building structures and building services management.
Proficient in HTM06-02 and HTM06-03 guidelines.
Membership in a relevant professional body or actively progressing towards chartered status.
Practical experience in engineering or estate maintenance management roles.
Possession of a full UK driving licence.
Demonstrated success in operational and management roles, preferably in complex environments.
Effective management of contracts and externally contracted teams.
Specialist knowledge in performance management, contract monitoring, and audit within building services.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Competence in technical compliance standards management and resolution of contractual compliance matters.
Experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships both internally and externally.
Ability to interpret and present complex information objectively to diverse stakeholder groups.
Competence in commercial management and resolution of commercial matters.
Ability to manage resources to provide a 24/7 priority-based estates service, proposing innovative solutions as needed.
Participation in a 24/7 management on-call rota.
Desirable experience working in an NHS or healthcare environment, with a good understanding of hospital policies and procedures.About the Trust
