A growing engineering business is looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Team Lead to develop its mechanical design and product development function.
This is a hands-on leadership position with responsibility for providing technical direction and leading mechanical product development from concept through to manufacture and launch. The role will involve working closely with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, customers and senior leadership.
  
About the Role

Lead and develop the mechanical design and product development function, providing technical and strategic direction.
Own the full product lifecycle from concept and design through to prototyping, testing, manufacture and launch.
Lead multidisciplinary engineering projects, managing quality, cost, timescales and technical delivery.
Drive design for manufacture, reliability, cost and performance across the product portfolio.
Develop engineering processes, standards and product development strategies aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
Mentor and develop the engineering team while managing resources, budgets and priorities.
Support and drive continuous improvement across the engineering and product development function.
Provide technical leadership across mechanical design and product development activities.   
About You

Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Significant experience in mechanical product development, design engineering or engineered product manufacturing.
Proven experience leading engineering/product development teams and delivering products from concept through to manufacture.
Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes and design for manufacture.
Proficient with 2D/3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor or AutoCAD.
Experience in product testing and validation.
Strong leadership, project management, commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, customers and senior leadership.   
Desirable

Experience within specialist engineered equipment, HVAC, environmental control systems or a similar technical product environment.
Experience leading New Product Development (NPD) programmes.
Knowledge of CE/UKCA and relevant UK/international product compliance requirements.
Experience with design risk assessment, FMEA and engineering change processes.
Understanding of electrical systems, controls, motors or embedded systems. Please note, we cannot offer sponsorship for this role.
