The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established and growing engineering manufacturer specialising in bespoke industrial process equipment supplied to customers across the UK and internationally.
This is an excellent opportunity for a design engineer who enjoys working on complex, custom-built machinery and wants to be involved in projects from concept through to manufacture. You will become part of a highly skilled engineering team delivering innovative solutions within a specialist heavy engineering environment.
The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing accurate and practical mechanical designs that support the manufacture of bespoke industrial equipment.
Working closely with production, project and engineering teams, you will develop new designs, improve existing products and provide technical support throughout the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities
Produce detailed 3D models and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor
Create accurate manufacturing and fabrication drawings
Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Develop designs from customer specifications and project requirements
Prepare assembly and manufacturing documentation
Ensure drawings contain appropriate dimensions, tolerances and material specifications
Revise and update existing engineering designs
Support production teams with technical queries
Assist with resolving manufacturing and design-related issues
Maintain engineering documentation and drawing revisions
Ensure designs comply with customer, quality and engineering standards
The Person
We are looking for a practical and detail-oriented engineer who enjoys solving engineering problems and designing equipment that can be successfully manufactured and assembled.
Essential Requirements
Previous experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer position
Strong Autodesk Inventor experience
AutoCAD Mechanical experience
Experience creating manufacturing drawings and BOMs
Understanding of fabrication, machining and manufacturing processes
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
Desirable Experience
Special purpose machinery
Heavy engineering equipment
Industrial process equipment
Process plant machinery
Fabricated and welded structures
Furnace, thermal processing or materials handling equipment
